off topic but did you know about those guys ? They seems to be a tibetan tribe living in Sichuan but I can't find the term to refer to them. They still wear old leather lamellar on occasions, and I was wondering what animal it was made from , is it mentioned ?

I actually never heard about them until now. They are a Tibetan/Qiang mix. The article does not mention the material of their armours.

DeleteThis type of lamellar seems to be used in western sichuan and yunnan, as well as kham(eastern tibet).This particular type seems indeed very close to Qiang armor, with some variation. I've been able to find that it was probably made of pig skin and cow leather by the Qiang ,nosuo and nakhi, but one exemple from eastern tibet seems to be maid from rhinoceros, as well as having a large plate in front, suggesting that it probably belonged to a hybrid population of tibetan and yi/ lolo. Those type can hardly be related with ming lamellar, however , they are deffinity plossible candidate for the armor worn by the Nanzhao or Dali kingdom army, as leather armor is mentioned in song and ming sources as being made of different materials, suggesting a variation of forms.
